Staten Island Building Bridges
The Building Bridges Coalition of Staten Island is a non-profit corporation, founded in 2003 whose purpose is to promote a dialogue amongst the various faith organizations on Staten Island. Our Organization has a board consisting of lay people and clergy. We sponsor four events each year:
March / April An Interfaith Seder
August Respecting Differences Program (a walk to two or three different houses of worship with events planned at each location
November An Interfaith Celebration of Thanksgiving

December

The Unity Project (open to all Staten Island school children in grades 6 - 12) The unity project has a specific theme and the children can submit an essay, poem, video, or poster.

New for the 2010 Unity Project: BBCSI has partnered with the Temple of Understanding (TOU) a United Nations NGO (non-governmental organization) for high school students completing TOU's Interfaith Dialogue and Education Action (IDEA) training.

The Building Bridges Coalition collects no dues and has no formal membership. Proceeds from the Interfaith Seder and contributions from individuals fund our programs.

Individuals who witnessed a growing need to build bridges of understanding and respect within a diverse community organized the Staten Island Building Bridges Coalition. Representatives from religious institutions and ethnic organizations meet to share common concerns and develop community programs.
